Speaker for 20 September 2020: W. Bro. István Horváth, “The Temple in the Air”

Worshipful Brother István Horváth was born in Transylvania, and in 1994 was initiated into Freemasonry in Budapest, Hungary, where the practice of Freemasonry was not permitted before December of 1989.  He has been living in Canada since 1997:  first in Hamilton, Ontario; later in Langley, British Columbia; then in Winnipeg, Manitoba; and now in Waterdown, Ontario.  He affiliated with the Electric Lodge in Hamilton and was installed as Worshipful Master in 2018.  He was re-elected for a second term, and will be compelled by COVID-19 to serve a third term.  He is also a Royal Arch Mason.  He ascension in the AASR (Scottish Rite) has been halted at the 14th degree by the virus, but rest assured, he is in good health.  István is also a member of Heritage Lodge, the research lodge of Ontario, and the Observant Lodge Templum Lucis. In addition, he is a member of the Quatuor Coronati Correspondence Circle, the Philalethes Society, and the Scottish Rite Research Society.

As a linguist, István has been a teacher, translator (of Nabokov), journalist, humanitarian worker during the war in Grozny, Chechnya, and author.  He continues to be a student of life and an eager adventurer.  In retirement, he enjoys gardening and practicing Tai Chi & Qigong.  Bro.
